Food & Drinks
The seaside restaurant, managed by Chef Edi, serves a variety of Balinese, Indonesian and Western dishes with fresh ingredients only. Vegetables are delivered daily and locally grown. Therefore some fruits or vegetables are seasonal. We depend on the catch of the day of the local fishermen. Try their exotic cocktails, while sunbathing at one of the pools, relaxing at the restaurant or enjoying a nice/breezy tropical night with family or friends.
Dive Information
Dive Sites For Beginners
- JEMELUK - Beach Dive Amed Easily accessible location, nice corals between 3-6m, artificial reefs at more profound depths. Great variety of reef fish. A perfect location for night dives as well.
- US LIBERTY - Beach Dive Tulamben The most famous dive spot in Bali. The 120m long vessel is one of the easiest wrecks to dive in the world, but is also one of the most interesting. Fully covered in corals, home to hundreds of different fish species. Starting at about 4-5m deep up until 27m, this site requires several dives to see everything
- KUBU - Beach Dive Tulamben A nice, relaxed diving spot. Excellent coral fields, a wide variety of fish and sea life.
- Sometimes a bit of current, but never pose a real problem. Dont forget your camera!
- DROP OFF - Beach Dive Tulamben About 300m to the east of the wreck, is the drop-off. A steep wall, covered with corals, up to 70m deep. If youre lucky, your eye will fall on one of the many mimic octopus, mantis shrimps and mostly, youll also meet with the bumphead parrotfish. Lovely dive spot!
- MELASTI - Beach Dive Amed Photographers will love this. An excellent muck dive, very shallow but with lots of rare critters.
Dive Sites For Intermediates
- JAPANESE WRECK - Beach or boat dive Amed The Japanese wreck is a small fishing vessel that sunk right off the beach. The corals on the boat and around the slopes behind the ship are very diverse and beautiful. A big variety of reef fish is to be found here, as are many nudibranchs. Current can be quite strong sometimes.
- BUNUTAN HOUSE REEF - Beach or boat dive Amed The house reef offers something for everybody. Currents can be quite strong, but they bring with them Sharks, schools of Barracuda, Giant Trevally and other Pelagics. When the current is down, its a good spot to look for different types of Eels, Octopus, Ghost pipefish, And if that isnt enough, the huge fans and very healthy corals continuously keep the place interesting. (due to currents and difficult beach access in the dark, not suited for night dives)
- SERAYA - Beach Dive Tulamben Balis famous muck dive. A dream for photographers and lovers of small and weird creatures. A must! The difficulty here is being focussed and maintaining perfect buoyancy.
- ALAMANDA - Boat dive Tulamben From the starting point of the drop-off, we take a boat and after about 5 minutes, we arrive at Alamanda. A beautiful, coral-covered slope that holds a lot of secrets. Take your time to explore (or dive with our experienced guides) and let the reef come to life.
- GILI SELANG BAY - Boat Dive Amed The bay leading away from Gili Selang is covered in magnificent, healthy coral fields. Some downcurrent sometimes and cold upwellings. Absolutely stunning dive and definitely one of our favorites.
Dive Sites For Advanced
- BLUU ROCKS - Boat Dive Amed A dive site that was recently discovered, but only for more experienced divers, as currents and a lot of thermoclines make the diving a bit harder. The colder currents and upwellings create a very healthy reef with a big possibility of seeing bigger things. Very exciting place!
- CHINESE RESTAURANT - Boat Dive Amed Another very exciting place we recently discovered ourselves. We named this site because of the amazing variety of amazing fish we saw during our first dive at this place. Sharks, Rays, Turtles, Octopus, Tuna, Napoleons, Strong currents and colder upwellings, make this a dive site for the more experienced
- diver. This is probably one of the most exciting new dive spots around Bali and this will soon be a sought after dive spot!
- GILI SELANG - Boat dive Amed Gili Selang is the most eastern tip of Bali. On 95% of the dives, at some point during the dive, you will encounter very strong current as you pass the rock. However, there are regular sights of Hammerheads, White tips and other pelagics passing by. Only for the very experienced divers. We will only take people if were really 100% of their skills, as once youre in, theres only 1 way out.

We stayed at Puri Wirata in March 2023 after about three weeks diving in Raja Ampat. We were at Puri Warita for one week. We had booked the stay, including four days of diving and two excursions through our travel agents, Anne and Scott with Blue Water Dive Travel (who did a great job). The location is great. The hotel is on the ocean and the views are gorgeous. There are two oceanfront infinity pools, an elevated open air restaurant looking out over the water and numerous places to lounge outside, including plenty of shade if desired. The hotel is upscale but showed a bit of wear and tear. We stayed in a Villa Master Suite. It was a huge one bedroom apartment with a separate bedroom, a large bath, full kitchen and a large combination dining/living area. The internet worked well. The apartment also had large outdoor balconies on two sides with ocean views. The food at Puri Wirata is delicious and reasonably priced. For those seeking variety, there are also many good restaurants and a grocery store within easy walking distance.During our stay there were a lot of caterpillars around the property. They were harmless but a bit of a nuisance. Some of them came into our room. I’m not sure whether the presence of the caterpillars was a normal event or something unusual. Although, in a very Balinese fashion, the local people seemed to be living in harmony with the caterpillars. We tried to do the same.Bali Reef Divers has a full service operation at Puri Wirata. I did four dives a day with them most days, including a couple of night dives. My wife did a few less dives because most of the dives required a shore entry and the sand and rocks were rough on her knees. Each dive, the divers from Puri Wirata travelled in the back of a pickup truck to either a central meeting point (often another Bali Reef Divers location) or directly to the beach. At some point the divers and their gear eventually all made it to same beach, mostly by pickup truck but occasionally by motorcycle. Everything is well orchestrated. I thought the whole process was great fun.Bali Reef Divers provides a very high level of personal service. For example, our dive guide, Sari, who is absolutely fantastic, made sure that someone (often him) carried my wife’s gear into the water to make it easier for her.In addition to many shore dives, we did one two tank boat dive. It was unlike any other boat dive I had ever done. Sari arranged for a fishing boat captain to pick us up on the beach after completing his early morning fishing trip. The boat was a modern version of a traditional Balinese fishing boat which is similar to a large canoe with outriggers. It was a unique experience and one of the highlights of our time in Bali. The black sand in Bali made the diving quite unique. There was also lot of unique marine life, especially on the night dives. Sari was able to plan and execute our dives to avoid having to swim against strong currents. Other than the usual challenges of shore entry diving, the diving was relaxed and quite enjoyable. The Liberty Wreck has to rate as one of the top wreck dives in the world.Sari made everything great fun. The best advice I can give anyone planning to dive in the Amed/Tulamben area is to try and dive with Sari. You will not be disappointed.
