Maldives Liveaboard Diving
Diving Season
The best time to go on a Maldives liveaboard is from January to April, with the weather getting less windy as you approach April. During these months visibility is very good as it is the driest and warmest period. You may experience sudden rain showers, but they are short-lived and provide relief from the heat.
May to July is considered the rainy season and can bring unstable weather, especially during June and July.
Maldives liveaboard diving conditions are also usually good from August to November, but the abundance of plankton in the water can reduce visibility (but also bring plankton feeders like the Manta Rays and Whale Sharks).
"Feeding season" at Hanifaru Bay (and everywhere else) for the whale sharks and manta rays is considered to be from May to November, peaking from late July to early October.

- Diving Season: January to April (northeast monsoon season) is considered the ideal time to visit, while May to July is the rainy season. Conditions are also good from August to November, with the abundance of plankton bringing in big animals such as Manta Rays and Whale Sharks who feed on them
- International Airport: Malé International Airport (MLE)
- Local Airport: Most liveaboard Maldives trips depart near the Malé International Airports, but there are multiple local airports spread out among the islands.
- Water Temperature: Water temperatures are usually moderate, but ranging from 80-86F (26-30C) year-round
- Wetsuit: 3mm wetsuit
- Required Diving Skill Level: We recommend Maldives liveaboards for the intermediate level or experienced diver because of the depths and currents. However, there are also many dives sites that are suitable for novice divers as well which are protected from the currents.
