More information about Bali diving
Tulamben's highlight is the USAT Liberty wreck, a major dive attraction lying between 20 and 100 feet (6 to 30 meters) deep. The wreck, accessible from shore, features diverse marine life such as bumphead parrotfish, jacks, and barracuda. Nearby, the Drop-Off offers a stunning coral wall, while Seraya Secrets provides excellent muck diving. Blackwater diving is also popular in Tulamben, adding to its appeal.

Where to start!? The driver was on time to pick me up from the airport carrying my name. The services in the hotel were very good and I really like each individual working at the resort. They were friendly and supportive and smile on their face all the time. I felt among friends and family.I almost tried each dish on the menu and they were all delicious. They clean the room every day and change the towel if needed while you are gone diving.I had my own dive guide who was very well-trained and excellent to spot all that I asked for. They would take care of all your diving equipment in terms of putting together, cleaning, and preparing them for your dive so you save your energy for the dives.I will definitely go back again and again and recommend Liberty dive Resort.Note. BRING HARD BOOTS FOR YOUR DIVING. The beach entry is very rocky!!

If your priority is diving (and especially photography), this is the perfect home base for exploring the Liberty Wreck and the other sites around Tulamben, Bali, including many world-class macro dives. For incredible prices, you will have a private guide who is available to dive with you on your schedule, as many times per day as you want; a clean and comfortable room with A/C and wifi, and the beautifully maintained grounds with multiple lovely pools to relax in between dives. The food is nothing to write home about but does the trick - simple, solid Indonesian fare plus a variety of so-so western options. The staff was universally warm, welcoming, hospitable, and helpful - the friendliest, informal, family-like vibe of anywhere we stayed in Bali.As far as diving, the highlights of course are the Liberty Wreck, with its abundant encrusting growth and marine life (don't miss the sunrise dive to see the bumphead parrotfish!), and the countless world-class muck sites on the steep volcanic black-sand slope right off the shore. If macro photography is a priority, make sure to request a guide with that specialty - we had Uji, whose spotting abilities were unbelievable and specializes in the tiniest of the tiny stuff. He finds nudibranch after nudibranch smaller than a grain of rice.Dive operations were smooth and streamlined. Tell your guide what time you want to meet for your next dive. When you show up, your gear will be assembled on a tank and ready to go. Pop on your wetsuit, dip in the pool to avoid overheating, and hop in the back of the waiting mini-pickup truck that will take you to your dive site (the Liberty Wreck is a 1-minute drive, most other sites are within 5-10 minutes). Hop off the truck, put on your gear, and walk a few steps into the water. Can't wait to go back!

I stayed at Liberty Dive Resort for 3 nights in August 2014. Overall, I liked it very much. The resort is slightly off the main road (so it is nice and quiet), quite private, and comfortable. Rooms are spacious, clean, and well lit. Bathrooms are also spacious and comfortable. There are 2 swimming pools and a nice garden in the middle of the property. The main attraction is the proximity to great dive sites. LDR is about a 5 min walk to the Liberty. This proximity is very handy if you want to do dawn dives or night dives on the wreck. The resort is also just a few minutes by truck to all the other sites in the area. Most of the sites are black sand muck diving sites, where you will seek lots of macro critters and nudibranchs. For wide angle photography, head to the Liberty or Drop Off.The guides are great. They know the sites very well and are happy to accommodate any requests you might have. They provide full service like carrying all your gear and changing your tanks, so you feel quite pampered. The only thing about LDR that is not outstanding is the food, which I found to be mediocre. The menu is large but nothing really stood out to me.

Objectively, Liberty Dive Resort offers truly great value for the price. I stayed with them for three nights in 2011, and was highly impressed with the value that I received. The room, and the resort in general, were both clean and well maintained. The rinse area is not ideal, but the rinse tanks are looked after and there is a hose to rinse out your items. I did not use the resort pool, or take advantage of any of the "spa" type services, so cannot comment on these. Instead, my focus was on the diving, and Liberty Dive Resort delivered. Everything that I asked to do was arranged, and arranged well - all of the diving, at the dive sites and times I wanted.Due to the resorts location, you can dive the Liberty Wreck with ease - which is truly ideal, as this is the most popular site in the area. In order to dive many of the other sites, the resort arranges transport (short drives, under 15 minutes) for you and your gear. The divemaster I dove with was professional, and well trained at finding the small critters I was interested in seeing. He showed me tons of nudibranchs, ghost pipefish, sawblade shrimp, etc. He was also able advise on the correct time of day to go to the Liberty Wreck and look for the schooling jackfish - which delivered. Being surrounded by that school was a great experience, that Liberty Dive arranged.I ate all of my meals at the resort restaurant, and have no complaints. I enjoyed the Indonesian food they served, and don't demand a great deal of variety (and I am not sure there was much) as long as the food is good - and it was.Overall - great value for money. This is a resort I would recommend.
