Little Cayman Beach Resort

I have now stayed at the Little Cayman Beach Resort twice. The excellence of the staff was evident both times. Everyone from front desk, to restaurant servers, to bar tenders, provide great service, and always with a smile. The chef here is a master at providing amazing food at every meal and superb desserts. They provide games and entertainment every night. They are also located a very short distance from the dive sites, average 10-15 minutes. The on site dive operation, Reef Divers, is a true valet service. Loading and setting up your gear each day, then breaking it down , rinsing, and storing it. Excellent pre-dive briefings and fabulous diving. Divers' paradise!

Beautiful destination dive resort which was very good for dedicated divers who want valet dive service. Average age of divers was in the 50's. In the two level motel there were about 60 rooms. Upstairs rooms had carpeted floors and the 8 ocean view rooms were very nicely appointed.The food served buffet style was delicious, very healthy and fresh with a decent variety of meat dishes of three choices per dinner. The dining room staff became our friends - so helpful and accommodating.The dive operators were knowledgeable and friendly with great visual dive plans explained for each dive. Experienced divers get plenty of latitude and freedom. The reefs were in great condition with minimal damage. Sea life was abundant with about 50 animals identified including Ann occasional shark. 2 night dives were offered per week. Visibility was between 60 to 100 feet. Water temp in January was 80f.All the dive sites were interesting. Annie's Attic and Bus Stop were special. With two to three dives a day few sites were repeated.This resort had a fun bar staff. The all inclusive package included 2 delicious alcoholic drinks a day. The hot tub near the bar and pool area was perfectly heated with views of the ocean in the distance. The hammock by the shore were under a large palapa =very relaxing.Dive shop staff, Caitlin, was most helpful.I liked this place so much I've been back!

Little Cayman Island was beautiful. It is a small, not very populated island part of the Cayman islands. It is ideal for divers wanting to get away from the mayhem of the more populated areas like Grand Cayman. We were immersed in the environment, iguanas everywhere. This was my first reef diving adventure and from what i saw, the reefs here were practically untouched. I have never seen such pristine reefs in person; this was something you see on the Discovery Channel. Considering that this is such a small island, the reefs around Little Cayman do not see many people and are relatively untouched. Fish populations were explosive and large groupers swam freely and would even come right up to you just to say hi. Plenty of reef sharks and rays, I was even lucky enough to see a spotted eagle ray - absolutely beautiful. The coral diversity was also extraordinary, very little instances of bleaching/coral disease. All the equipment worked excellent, I had no trouble underwater. Unfortunately there is no shore diving but if you talk to the locals, there is a spot on the other side of the island called Cumber's Caves where you may be able to shore dive if you can manage to get the equipment over there. If not, this site is wonderful for snorkeling - it even has two resident reef sharks who are completely harmless. The food was delicious but a little expensive (which is understandable considering that everything is shipped in to Little Cayman). The resort itself was beautiful. The bar within the resort is where all the dive masters hang out and swap dive stories. I enjoyed listening to these veterans chat about their experiences. The bar is also right next to the pool and occasionally, they would play movies on a screen by the pool. Karaoke Fridays were also a hit with the crowd. The rooms were clean and very well kept. The wifi worked well and the flat screen TV was very nice. There was also DVD player in the room. The rooms were also air conditioned which was very important for me because I get hot very easily. The reefs surrounding Little Cayman are unmatched and the Little Cayman Beach Resort is the best place to go to dive these reefs.

When you pull into the Little Cayman Beach Resort, it looks like a nice Caribbean hotel but once you’re met by the friendly and wonderful staff and check into your room, it’s clear that it’s much more…it’s a Caribbean gem. The rooms are newly updated, clean and comfortable. We had 3 people in our room and there was enough storage for our gear and clothing. We chose the meal plan and glad we did because the food is amazing. One night, while I was enjoying a spinach and watermelon salad with a tangy vinaigrette, one of many delicious food options, I asked a women working in the dining room if she knew what the vinaigrette was. She was actually the chef and enthusiastically explained the ingredients. I thanked her and complimented her on the food and found out that she went to the New York Culinary Institute. No surprise there. Make sure to get a slice of the chocolate cake...it’s chocolaty decadence…good thing I burned a lot of calories diving. There’s not a lot to do on the island except dive, the sightseeing is chill and easy to walk or bike to but the Beach Resort bar is a fun hang out.But the main reason for being there is the diving and the diving was great. Reef Divers are onsite and the staff, equipment and boats are all exceptional. Nice wall dives on the Cayman Ridge or Cayman Trench, that reach depths of 25,000 feet…yes that’s 25 thousand feet. The coral is healthy with lots of beautiful and sometimes strange looking fish. Overall, a great Caribbean dive trip.

Little Cayman Beach Resort is pleasantly unpretentious and laid back; as guests, my husband and I feel at once relaxed and pampered. The food at their Flamingo Room restaurant is outstanding, with impressive buffet-style meals that are gourmet in preparation and presentation. There are lots of fresh food selections, and nightly dessert bars to die for! Every meal is a feast. My favorite breakfast dish (anywhere) is their delicious coconut porridge. Oceanfront and poolside rooms are well designed and comfortable; as a photographer, I appreciate the ample sized counters, cupboards, and closet storage. Resort staff is efficient and friendly, clearly into making your stay fun, like the groundskeeper who, while pruning a palm, eagerly cleaved a coconut for me, primed for a straw and my lounge chair! Beach Nuts Bar is a cheerful diversion; its ceilings and surrounds are packed with “artwork” crafted by fellow divers, using organic materials (driftwood, shells, palm fronds, etc.) and paint; great fun to check out, or add to the collection yourself (they have the supplies). Nightlife at Beach Nuts varies from quite lively to subdued. A weekly team trivia contest can be a hoot. For a short daytime stroll, the Red-Footed Booby Sanctuary is just down the road. Other resort activities include kayak and sunfish rentals; there is a small pool and hot tub, and a gift shop called Mermaids.Diving, primarily on the north side of the island at Bloody Bay and Jackson Bight, is nothing short of phenomenal: remarkable topography with steep walls, swim-throughs, drop-offs, and sand pans with coral mounts full of critters large and small; it’s a healthy reef with lots to explore. Sea turtles and Southern stingrays are common, and I often see lemon rays and reef sharks. Large barrel sponges frequently punctuate the reefscape. There’s plenty of great macro life and lots to investigate; as a photographer, I’m thrilled with constant close and wide-angle opportunities. Resident groupers are friendly and make for willing models. The “concierge” style of diving provided by Reef Divers means minimal handling of your BC and reg after the first day. Their dive briefings are well detailed, which I much appreciate given the relief. Visibility is generally 75-100 plus feet; a few sites have mild currents. Many sites allow for deep (>90 feet) or shallow exploration. I’d be hard-pressed to pick favorite sites (!) but I’m especially fond of Coconut Walk and anything with a swim-through. Reef Divers will guide each dive, but also give you the option of exploring on your own. Most diving is about 20-30 minutes from the resort pier.LCBR is a bit more involved to get to, as an additional flight from Grand Cayman is needed, which for me adds to the adventure. As such, it’s great for people who can handle a little extra travel time and cost. I think it’s less well suited for kids (there’s no daycare or separate kid’s pool), novice divers (potential depths and topography). Snorklers may be disappointed as the resort sits on a shallow bay of turtle grass. I think it’s ideal for competent divers, couples or groups, and as to photography, there is something for every level of interest and skill. We definitely look forward to returning to the LCBR!
