Dive Overview
Malapascua Island is located on the northernmost tip of Cebu Island in the Visayan Sea in the Philippines. Malapascua's main attraction is the daily parade of thresher sharks that come up to Monad Shoal to get clean at dawn. Although most divers come to Malapascua Island to get close to thresher sharks, there is also great reef and macro diving all around the island with nightly sightings of mandarin fish and lots of macro subjects like pygmy seahorses and blue ring octopus.

More information about Philippines diving
Malapascua Island, Cebu, is renowned as the world's premier destination for thresher shark encounters, with Monad Shoal offering daily sightings of these magnificent creatures. Divers at Monad Shoal typically find the sharks early in the morning, as they come in for cleaning on the sandy bottom at around 25 meters (90 feet). Beyond its famous thresher sharks, Malapascua provides excellent macro diving opportunities, with sites like Gato Island showcasing vibrant marine life, including cuttlefish, seahorses, and nudibranchs. The island's shallow reefs are perfect for macro photography, while its pristine waters and white sandy beaches create an idyllic tropical setting. Diving is possible year-round, though visibility may be reduced during the typhoon season from July to October.
