How to Get There

Flying to Cozumel is easy thanks to many visiting tourists. Several airlines offer direct flights into Cozumel International Airport (CZM), and from there it's a quick shuttle or shared taxi ride to the dive resorts. If taking the taxi, it's necessary to pay for the ride inside the airport before walking outside. There are two rates depending on whether the resort is close to town or further south (about $9 USD).

The other alternative is to fly into Cancun and then take a ferry down to Cozumel. This also presents the opportunity to visit Playa Del Carmen - a great option for those who would like to cover a bit more ground or dive the Cenotes.

Dive Overview

Cozumel is a year-round dive destination known for easy drift diving with stellar visibility, vibrantly colored sponges and marine life like turtles, nurse sharks and rays. It also has good nightlife and a mix of luxury and inexpensive dive resorts.

Dive Overview

The diving in Cozumel is comprised primarily of drift dives along beautiful coral reefs. Two-tank morning dives are standard, generally starting with a deeper reef in the Palancar region of the Marine Park. Here divers will descend to 60-120 feet to drift along massive walls, explore swim-throughs and channels and take in all the colorful soft coral formations.

Diving in Cozumel The second dive is typically on a shallower reef closer to the resort with depth in the 30-60 range, where ambient light mixes with coral heads and gardens of sponges, gorgonians and great fish life. Beach dives present underwater photographers with the time to search for critters with their macro lens. Visibility range is typically 100ft+ year-round and water temperature is between 75- 85F. The weather is tropical with little seasonal variation.

Divers will find eagle rays in the winter months, reef sharks in the summer months and turtles and nurse sharks year-round.

Cozumel is home to the Splendid Toadfish, which can be found under ledges. Grunts, parrotfish, black grouper, angelfish, tangs, moray eels, lobsters and much other marine life can be found on the reefs in Cozumel. There are also juvenile drum fish, seahorses, anemone fish, colorful nudibranchs, arrow crabs and many other small critters.

dressel divers Overview

Dressel Divers is the company chosen by the prestigious Iberostar Hotel chain for the last twenty years to run diving activities on the premise of its luxury hotels in the Caribbean, to ensure that this service has the same quality as the hotels. Dressel Divers have a dive center directly on the beach of Iberostar Cozumel Hotel.

Dive Center Features

Dressel Divers has rental equipment that feels like it's every diver's own! The dive equipment is of premium quality, regularly maintained and replaced with new and innovative products over time. A wide variety of gear is offered so that persons of all statures and ages will find something that suits them.

The dive centers include state of the art equipment rooms staffed by employees who wash, disinfect and store client's rental equipment. They also include a place to store personal dive equipment. Our cylinders, filling stations and compressors are operated and maintained by well-trained qualified staff in strict compliance with the generally accepted industry standards and all instructions specific to the brands used.

The boats are exclusively designed and built for Dressel Divers under the strict supervision of Javier Ibran, a lifelong diver and the company's founding President. Dive boats are tailored to provide ample space for equipment and clients, as well as an easy entry and exit into the water for divers.

Cylinders are provided on-board the boats, the majority of which are catamarans or trimarans (to limit movement due to waves and therefore seasickness).

Boats, furthermore, are equipped with a sunroof, fresh drinking water, a radio, a GPS device, oxygen, spare diving equipment, and everything else deemed mandatory by the United States Coast Guard. The engines, all top brands, are subject to ongoing monitoring and servicing by in-house mechanics. Boat captains, moreover, all have First Aid medical training. Last but not least, with very few exceptions all boats have double engines.

Almost all the staff obtained their professional diving qualifications with our own PADI Career Development Center. They are therefore trained within our own philosophy and in harmony with the objectives of Dressel Divers. They will give you not only a great dive but also a very safe one!

I went with a group of divers and nondivers and we spent a week at the Iberostar Hotel in Cozumel. We booked 19+ dives over 5 days. The resort was amazing. The staff were friendly and very helpful, always interested in getting us anything we needed. The rooms are in individual buildings with four rooms to a building - two up and two down and each has separate, private entrances. The rooms clean, quiet and very comfortable. The food was fantastic with a huge variety of options to suit all needs. There is a large, buffet style eating area for lunch and dinner, three restaurants that rotate nights, a separate small food pavilion and bar closer to the beach. All eating options were included in the price of the stay, as were all beverages - no limits. The facilities were clean, safe and careful - with an eye towards COVID risks. The hotel offered free COVID testing within 72 hours of departure to meet US re-entry requirements. At the time they also offered free 10 accommodations if anyone tested positive.
The scuba diving with Dressel Divers was fantastic. I was a newer diver and by boyfriend had never dove. He did the Discover Scuba and was so comfortable with it that he is going to pursue certification. I worked with the DM on my diving skills (buoyancy) and other improvements, even during our group dives. The undersea life (macro and micro) were amazing and the coral was in wonderful condition. There are enough sites to dive that we weren't always at the same ones and the depth and variety (swim throughs, wreck, etc) were great!
We will be going back there and with some of the deals going on right now it may be in the next few months!

The Iberostar was perfect for our family. My husband and 17 year old son were already certified divers. But since it had been one year, they were able to do a refresher course the day we arrived. This was great for refreshing and checking equipment. They were then able to pick their days, dive locations and types. Because I don't dive, I enjoyed the amenities of the resort such as games, yoga, the beach, pool, many bars and restaurants. I loved having the presidential because I had a private pool and beach. The hotel was so very accommodating. Anything we needed they took care of promptly. This was a great resort for divers and and adults.
