Dominican Republic

We dove at Viva Diving, but stayed at a different location. This was a great place for my 16 year old to have his 1st Discovery Dive. We also dove with 3 other family members who were beginners.

Ancora: Great dive for beginners. Had some cannon balls to play with. Good way to practice buoyancy. Visibility wasn't great, but we saw a seahorse and flounder.

Casa Estella and Aquario: Saw coral and marine sponges, but not a lot of fish.

St. George Wreck: Nice coral and fish all around. Fun wreck dive.

Atlantic Princess Wreck: Went scuba diving with beginners. Fun wreck to explore for them. There was some coral and a few fish swimming around.

Coca: Lots of marine sponge and some coral. More of a current on this dive. Not a lot of fish, but pleasant enough.

One disadvantage is that the dive center is a separate ownership than resort, so we were unable to use the beach or eat at the facility. I think the resort is an all inclusive as everyone had on bands. Security was strict, which is good if you are staying there :)

Buddy Dive Bonaire Resort

Our accommodations were in a 3 bedroom with 5 people. The space was tight, but comfortable. There was a room on the first floor shared by 2 people with twin beds. The bathroom was a main floor bathroom where the kitchen and dining/living/tv area were located. There was a balcony off from the living area with a dining table for 6. Upstairs there were 2 bedrooms with attached bathrooms. Each room had small balconies. Internet service was strong.

A simple buffet breakfast was included every morning. The beach bar had a nice selection of food like coconut shrimp, tuna, tacos, sandwiches and salads.

We also got a truck from the dive resort to drive around the island. Driving and shopping downtown was fun. On the last day, we enjoyed some sightseeing. Went to the slave huts, the flamingo sanctuary, and the rum distillery. Wish I had bought more rum! The resort also has a little shop off from the dive center. We rented our dive equipment from the dive shop. Be sure to bring you own batteries as theirs are expensive. Otherwise, prices are reasonable.

The main draw is the scuba diving! The location is centrally located to a lot of the dive sites and diving from the resort itself is enjoyable. We had about 14 dives in 6 days. Others in our group had many more, but that was good for us. We got to see lots of different fish. Really enjoyed seeing the seahorses. The phosphorescent night dive was a fun experience. Highly recommend this as most places don't offer and the colors there are great.

Pacific Safari - Cabo

The staff was prepared for a shark dive even though we booked the Pelagic Safari. They had a professional photographer that was capturing marketing videos and photos. It was interesting to see the photographer's fancy equipment. We had to wait while they refitted the boat. The place is really clean and new with high end gear. Boat looked new as well and was well stocked with food, drinks, and towels. The tour itself is kinda like fishing. Some days are better than others as you are trying to find bigger fish in a large ocean. We did see a group of 3 whales which breached as they travelled. We followed them for over an hour. The photographer had a high end drone that followed the whales and took video. We didn't see any of the video though. Only other sightings were a turtle on the surface of the water and a sea lion (same one we saw on a dive trip we took).

The guides were nice and well informed. We probably would have seen more sharks if we had done that trip, but my daughter wasn't interested in swimming with sharks. It is relatively expensive compared to diving.

Sea of Cortez

Cabo itself is a great place to visit. We went over Spring Break, so there was plenty of night life. Had fun and good food at Cabo Wabo. Enjoyed the Giggling Marlin and El Squid Roe for a little night life. Had a great diner at La Central Los Cabos and watched all the boats coming in to dock.

We only had time for one day of scuba diving. We went around 7-8 meters for the most of the 3 dives. We aren't used to the cold water diving even in the 7mm suit. The dive was still fun and worth it!

Pelican Rock:

Interesting rocky, underwater mountain dive site. Good visibility - 15 meters, water temp was cold - 22 degrees celcius. Saw lots of fan corals, star fish, lobster, puffer fish, stone fish, nurse shark, spotted sea snake, eels, and lots of school fish.

Land's End:

Started off with a sea lion, sandy bottom dive with lots of rays. Also went by an old sunk boat, but the visibility wasn't as good there. Saw flounder and a few nudi branch as we came up a rocky wall. Lots of eels. Small cave at the end.

Neptune's Finger:

Sandy bottom start with rocky wall at the end. Saw large schools of fish, but visibility wasn't great. Saw lots of rays and eels. Pretty fan corals with lots of color. Nice butterfly ray, electric rays, and guitar rays. Puffer fish and nudi branch on wall.
