forgotten islands (ambon - Sorong) expedition
- Day One: After being greeted at the airport or hotel by Scubaspa ZEN crew, travel to the harbor and embark Scubaspa ZEN. Enjoy a short rest before unpacking while the spa opens to offer information and treatment reservations. Crew introductions and boat briefings will be held by the Cruise Managers followed by a welcome dinner at our al fresco restaurant.
- Day Two: Your first dive will be at Laha. Located about three kilometers inside the bay on the northern coast, it is the best macro dive site in Ambon. The colorful fish here put on quite a show and for most scuba divers, witnessing this scene is worth the entrance money alone. There is no shortage of life among the small corals and rubble found along the sea bottom. The area is famous for frogfish, juvenile fish, ghost pipefish, and rhinopias. Each dive in Laha will add something new and interesting to your scuba diving holiday. The vessel will cruise towards Nusa Laut for watersport and snorkeling activities, voyage to Run Island before dinner, and cross the Banda Sea overnight.
- Day Three: Awake next to the Island of Run and start your day with yoga on the beach to boost your energy level. Enjoy breakfast at the restaurant and perhaps a treatment at our spa. There will be two options to enjoy Run Island, either a visit to the beach with water sports activities and snorkeling or diving at Run. Run offers outstanding reefs and large schools of fish. Sloping reefs meet with a wall up to 30 meters deep covered in a range of beautiful corals with huge sea fans, a variety of colorful coral fish, and several overhangs to explore. After water activities, lunch will be served at the restaurant.
- A short journey away from Run lies the Island of Ai. This area acts as an oasis for pelagics that cruise by pristine hard coral reefs teeming with fish. Continue the day with sunset salutation yoga to unwind from the day’s activities. Enjoy dinner at the restaurant before a short cruise east towards Banda Neira.
- Day Four: Start your day with morning yoga or walking around this picturesque village and explore as you admire the perfect natural harbor beneath the shadow of the active Banda Api Volcano. Your first dive after breakfast will be at Batu Kapal, a small rock off Banda Neira Island with beautiful coral, sponge, and sea fan formations on the pinnacle walls. White tip and grey reef sharks can be seen in the deeper areas. The next dive site is Pohon Miring, one of top dive sites in Banda and known for swim throughs full of gorgonian sea fans and huge sponges, a rocky plateau full of small critters, and amazing visibility. In the evening, enjoy a barbecue at the restaurant prepared by our chef while the vessel sails to northeast towards Koon Island.
- Day Five: Awake next to the sprawling sandbanks of Koon Island that stretch almost as far as the eye can see at low tide. This Maldivian-like landscape is truly spectacular, as is the range and diversity of the fish and coral life underwater. In the gateway between the Banda and Arafura Sea, the strong currents encourage diverse and plentiful fish and coral life. The day’s diving will be highlighted by the unforgettable experience of swimming around with millions of fish, schooling jacks, barracuda, sharks, and much more. A special lunch barbecue at the restaurant between dives will complete your journey to this tiny Island. After the third dive, the vessel will cross the Arafura Sea and sail overnight north towards Wayil Batan Island.
- Day Six: Fiabacet Islands, located eight nautical miles east of Wayil Batan, is a fantastic area of three small rocks. The reefs here are remarkably healthy and often said to be some of the most beautiful reefs in Raja Ampat. The macro life is flourishing amongst the healthy corals, where you can find many different types of pygmy seahorses and nudibranchs. You can also see the majestic black manta in this area. In the evening, enjoy a night dive at Romeo where you can see walking sharks.
- Day Seven: After an overnight anchorage in the Wayil Batan area, we will sail west towards Pelee Island aboard the Dhoni diving boat. The first dive will be at Kaleidoscope Ridge, one of the best sites in Misool. It is named for the bursts of color among its soft corals and schools of fish. This is an excellent site to see mobular rays and wobbegong sharks. We will also dive Toblerone, known for its unique swim through and large hard coral gardens. After sailing back to Wayil Batan, we will dive the famous Four Kings site. Four pinnacles sprout up from the depths to create a picturesque backdrop for a myriad of life. The night dive will be at Barracuda Rock, where divers will have another chance to see walking sharks and pygmy seahorses.
- Day Eight: The Wayil Batan area is a 30 km wide channel with medium to strong currents. One of the best sites for macro divers is Gorgonian Passage. You will be able to spend a good part of your dive exploring the soft corals to reveal the many creatures that live among them. Enjoy a special barbecue lunch at the restaurant before sailing back to Boo Island to dive at beautiful Boo Window. The vessel will then sail northeast towards the Farondi Islands.
- Day Nine: Awake next to the Farondi Islands with a peaceful sky and warm weather. Farondi’s dive sites make many divers’ list of favorite sites in Raja Ampat due to their unique and distinctive landscape of tunnels, caverns, and colorful walls. Jellyfish Lake is worth a visit to snorkel with thousands of jellyfish, though a challenging hike. You may also hike up to the top of the nearby viewpoint to see Misool’s best kept secret, a heart-shaped lake. Tomolol Cave, a collection of water-filled caverns located in an easily accessible depression in the limestone, is another possibility for a land excursion. Near the caves is a series of enigmatic red-ochre paintings high up on an exposed wall of limestone. These paintings are estimated to be between three and five thousand years old. After dinner, the vessel will sail north towards the Batantas Islands.
- Day Ten: Our last dives will be in the Batantas. The dive sites in these bays offer some excellent photo opportunities for macro at sites like Algae Patch and Black Beauty. We will have our last chance to see oceanic and reef mantas at Dayang Manta.
- After lunch, the crew will assist you with rinsing your dive gear and retrieving your luggage for packing. The Cruise Managers will be delighted to assist you with final billing. Enjoy farewell cocktails at sunset followed by dinner on your last night exploring Banda and Raja Ampat before sailing east to Sorong.
- Day Eleven: Enjoy your final breakfast in the restaurant. After a farewell from your crew, we will escort you to the airport in advance of your departing flight.
north raja ampat expedition
- Day One: After being welcomed by the team at the airport, guests will travel to the harbor and embark the diving Dhoni boat. The diving Dhoni will sail north to Waisai/Mioskon. This six-hour cruise takes you past many spectacular islands including the Batantas and Kri as you leave behind the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Be welcomed aboard Scubaspa ZEN to rest and recover from the overnight flight. The spa will open to offer information and reservations for treatments In the evening. Crew introductions and boat briefings will be conducted by the Cruise Managers followed by a welcome dinner at the restaurant.
- Day Two: Awake with Mioskon and Waigeo in view and enjoy your first day of diving at Mioskon Reef. The beautiful Mioskon Reef offers a great example of what you can expect from Raja Ampat. Schools of yellow snapper, napoleon wrasse, giant groupers, and wobbegong sharks can be found in Mioskon. Stunning macro life can be seen as well. Continue your underwater exploration at the iconic dive site, Blue Magic. Located between Mioskon and Cape Kri, colorful hard and soft corals are home to everything from the teeniest shrimp to oceanic manta rays. Separated from Friwinbonda by a deep channel, Friwinbonda’s north coast cliffs plunge into the ocean to create the spectacular Friwinbonda wall dive and snorkeling site. Wrap up the day with a night dive at Tapokren, a sandy slope covered by algae and a good place to see some special critters. After dinner, Scubaspa ZEN will sail to the west towards Gam Island.
- Day Three: Gam Island, with its lush and hilly jungle landscape, is famous for its population of birds of paradise. The day’s first dive will be at Mayhem, a site known for lots of schooling fish and shark action as well as sitings of wobbegong sharks and pygmy seahorses. Your next dive will be at Citrus Ridge, a long reef covered with many brightly colored soft corals. This site is also an underwater heaven for macro lovers. Enjoy your evening dive at Aljui village jetty, which is also famous for its pearl farm. We will hunt for our favorite nighttime critters on this site, such as toadfish, octopi, and epaulette walking sharks. Your journey will continue north overnight towards Wayag.
- Day Four: Picturesque Wayag is a spectacular group of islands and a beautiful sight to start your day. Enjoy the chance to dive at Two Hump Rock, a tiny mushroom island easily circumnavigated in one dive, allowing you to see the massive, cavernous overhangs around the entire island and its colourful walls covered with all kinds of nudibranchs and flatworms.
- We will visit the legendary dive site Cathedral, which is renowned for its spectacular topography and swim throughs. Wrap up the day with an evening dive at Rangers Jetty black tip reef shark area. After dinner, the vessel will sail south towards Kawe Island.
- Day Five: Located on the equator to the west of Kawe Island, Black Rock and Eagle Rock dive sites are well known for their currents and manta populations. Continue your dive expedition at Aljui Wall, a wonderland of shallow corals. This is critter rather than big fish territory, with a chance to see “electric” clams, “fanned” tube worms, transparent painted shrimp, and exotic soft corals. Enjoy an evening dive at Cendana Jetty, the fuel-loading pier of the Aljui pearl farm where you can find ghost pipefish, scorpionfish, cuttlefish, and wobbegong sharks. After dinner, we will sail south towards Piaynemo Island.
- Day Six
- Awake next to Piaynemo, also known as mini Wayag, where some magnificent dive sites are located. You will dive My Reef, a submerged ridge with a wonderful hard coral garden and a hotspot of fish activity. Next, you will dive Melissa’s Garden, the most breathtaking patch coral garden in all Raja Ampat. Unusual and large rose-petal coral formations can be seen on this site whilst spotting reef sharks and napoleon wrasse. You will then dive Rufus Island, a large limestone formation with fringing coral reefs and a shallow lagoon. Enjoy an evening dive at Galaxy, another jetty dive site. The vessel will make a short crossing to the east towards Mansuar Island after dinner.
- Day Seven: Sawandarek Village is a picturesque place known for its long white beaches. Enjoy your last dive at the jetty, an absolutely stunning dive site. Historically, this has been a popular feeding area and for that reason, hundreds of fish congregate in and around the multicolored hard and soft corals along with octopi, massive turtles, and giant clams. This is an excellent site to photograph Pontoh’s pygmy seahorses, perhaps the smallest and most challenging species of pygmy seahorses to photograph. After your last dive, the crew will assist you with rinsing your dive equipment. You will have the afternoon to pack your luggage, during which time the Cruise Managers will be delighted to assist you with billing. Enjoy a celebratory sunset cocktail and dinner on your last night aboard Scubaspa ZEN before sailing back to Sorong.
