Anthony's Key Resort is a resort village consisting of 56 bungalows that are spread out through 11-acre property. There are 3 different styles of bungalows to choose from: Hill Superior, Key Deluxe and Key Superior.

The Key Deluxe and Key Superior bungalows are over-the-water bungalows situated along the perimeter of the key. The Hill Superior bungalows are situated on the main island, with a garden view.

KEY DELUXE

Key Deluxe bungalows are the most spacious bungalows.These overwater bungalows in Roatan feature wood floors, Honduran hardwood furnishings, natural stone counter-tops, air-conditioning, and high visibility glass windows for spectacular ocean views. Each bungalow has an adjoined private covered deck, inviting you to unwind after a day of diving and rest in a cozy hammock while embracing the tranquility after a day full of adventure. Access to the key is by free island taxi boat, traveling back and forth in the lagoon, between the key and the main island upon request. MAX GUESTS: 5

KEY SUPERIOR

These bungalows in Honduras are air-conditioned, weather-sealed, and fitted with high visibility glass windows for spectacular ocean vistas. Most Key Superior overwater bungalows are situated in groups of two, three or four and share a covered deck, making them ideal to gather with family and friends. Two individual bungalows have a private porch, each inviting you to unwind in a cozy hammock at the end of the day! Access to the key is by free island taxi boat, traveling back and forth in the lagoon, between the key and main island upon request. MAX GUESTS: 4

HILL SUPERIOR

These rooms feature warm wood floors and Honduran hardwood furnishings that are elegantly arranged throughout. All superior bungalows are air-conditioned, weather-sealed and fitted with high visibility floor to ceiling glass windows for spectacular views. A large private deck connects all four bungalows in this category and is a great place for groups to relax and enjoy time together. Access to the hillside is approximately 60 steps up from the dock. Anthony's Key Resort, Roatan Dive Sites

Perhaps no island in the Caribbean offers more distinctive or easily accessible dive sites than Roatan, with approximately 35 dive sites located from West Bay in the south to Man of War Cay. Anthony’s Key Resort is conveniently located in the middle and within a short boat ride of many of Roatan's top dive sites.
The island’s reefs and drop-offs are teeming with colorful marine life and are ideally suited for novices and experts alike. Surrounded by the longest barrier reef in the hemisphere, Roatan’s diving sites offer everything from hard-core wrecks and deep fissures to peaceful eel gardens and shallow terraces where countless macro photo opportunities abound.
Coral grows thickly on walls that begin in crystalline waters as shallow as 20 feet below the surface and drop to the purple depths of the Caribbean. Squadrons of eagle ray, schools of brightly colored tropical fish, and the occasional meandering shark are just a few of the Roatan scuba sites that delight divers.
Several large wrecks submerged near the resort, await exploration. With water temperatures averaging 80 degrees or warmer, gentle currents and visibility ranging from 50 to 100 feet, Roatan is a favorite among visitors who prefer their diving colorful, thrilling and unswerving.

We bought special deal two for one. Beautiful location with veranda with hammocks overlooking the main island and dolphin show. So relaxing. Diving was excellent with clear clear waters. Great DM who was very helpful. Our first one was so so but thankfully we changed boats.. Well organized operation. Functioned like clockwork. Dives mostly 70ft and more. Wrecks like the Aguila had a resident moray that came and played with the DM. Great spotted eagle rays and turtles. Smaller fishes were present too and nice coral but obviously not as plentiful as Philippines. Food was always three course. With choices usually. Loved all the soups but the rest of the meals were hit or miss. Tipping was quite confusing. People were saying $5 to 10 per dive. Not sure whether they meant each to DM and boat captain. Difficult to figure out how to tip rest of staff. If you want to hand personal do it at least a day before because some of the staff may be off on day you leave.

My sister and I recently visited Anthony's Key because we'd booked this trip before the pandemic and were itching to go diving. We had a wonderful time at Anthony's Key. The service was top notch and the food was ever better than I remember. Sadly though the diving isn't as good as I remember it being. The reef is covered in algae as there aren't very many fish anymore. It was super convenient getting our covid tests for our return home as the onsite clinic conducts them. We felt very safe the entire trip and would happily return again.

Anthony's Key Resort (AKR) is a great, well-established and well-respected resort that offers guests the best of what the Honduran Island of Roatan has to offer.
The resort is first class, compared to other resorts I have visited on this island and also in this neighborhood. It is in good repair, has beautiful grounds, and a great dining area with good food. Other resorts in the area that I have visited have been run down and had problems with hot water, plumbing, mildew, etc. This resort is very well maintained.
You have a choice of hilltop rooms or rooms right on the water, on a small island a couple hundred feet from the resort. The hilltop rooms start at S168/night, and the rooms on the water (key rooms) start at 214/night. We stayed in hilltop superior room and were very happy. These rooms are closer to the resort, dive shop, and dining areas, but the key rooms are conveniently serviced by a water taxi that is available 24 hours a day. The hilltop rooms are accessed by beautiful wooden walkways through the lush jungle and lined with beautiful flowers, where agoutis (local rodents that are almost like a cross between rabbits and squirrels) and colorful birds can be seen foraging in the bushes. The meals were good and plentiful, with a wide variety of continental and local cuisine that included fresh fruits and vegetables, and wonderful, homemade ice cream.
The dive resort and fleet of boats were well-run and well maintained. The dive masters and boat crews were personable and once they were comfortable with your diving skills, were happy to let you dive your own profile. They approached life with a relaxed, Caribbean vibe, that, as an experienced diver, I appreciated, but were always attentive and ready to help those newer to the sport. The only complaint that I had was that they did not always seem as diligent at finding and pointing out critters, as say dive guides at a resort like Crystal Blue in the Philippines.
The diving itself was good, with quite a bit of variety, but there were not as many large schools of fish as I would have preferred. This is probably partly due to over-fishing and partly due to the invasive lionfish, but dive guides are attempting to train local predators, such as moray eels to eat the lionfish, and seem to be having some success. I definitely saw fewer of them around AKR than in the Bahamas, for example. There were many turtles, and some very interesting canyons and swim throughs, my favorite one being Spookie Channel, and of course, the well-known Mary’s Place. They offer 3 boat dives a day, and unlimited shore diving, but I did not take advantage of the shore diving during my trip, and I heard from other guests that it was somewhat lackluster. I did spend one day snorkeling under the dock where the dive boats are kept, and found quite a few interesting critters. AKR does offer two exceptional experiences at an extra cost: a shark dive and a dolphin dive. The shark dive was very well run and featured beautiful Caribbean Reef sharks that you were allowed to swim around with for 20 minutes or so before the feeding actually commenced. There were probably 10-15 sharks in attendance. The food is kept in a five gallon bucket that is opened by pulling on a rope, towards the end of the dive, so that the divers get a chance to swim with the sharks first, and so the sharks don’t get accustomed to actually being fed by divers—a good and safe arrangement in my opinion. The dolphin dive features dolphins that have been raised in the dolphin research center that is onsite at AKR, but occurs in open water. The dolphins are introduced to the divers in their fenced off lagoon and demonstrate a series of tricks and behaviors, including some amazing vocalizations, before being released into the open ocean for the 40 minute dive experience. This was a great experience, and I was able to get a few good shots of them swimming by, which, to me were much more interesting than watching them do tricks.
Overall, this is a great destination for guests who want a nice resort, good food, and good value, and easy diving, and is also good for photographers, especially those wanting to shoot wide angle and see dolphins, turtles, and sharks. It might be more disappointing for those expecting a lot of macro subjects, or reefs teaming with large schools of fish, although the reefs themselves appeared to be in good condition for the most part. In my opinion, it was definitely money well-spent.

Have been to Anthony's Key twice. Once in 1996 and again in 2011. First trip was in August and the 2nd one in November. First trip unbearably hot (and back then the rooms were not air conditioned, something that improved over the years) and the 2nd one was November (rainy season and it rained TONS every day - if going this time of year invest in a good rain suit!). Just can't seem to find the right season, which is extremely important. I have to mention the no-seeums, horrendous the first and 2nd trip and apparently absolutely nothing to keep them at bay no matter what you try. All that said we had a good time on both trips. Each time stayed on the key and water taxied back and forth to the main part of the resort. The bungalows improved quite a lot over the years and had comfortable beds, large bathroom, small fridge, cold a/c, huge covered deck over the water with 2 hammocks overlooking the ocean. There is now a pool on the island side with a nice bar too. They claim to have wifi, but the only place you could get online was the main bar. There is still a very steep set of stairs to go up and down for every meal. If you're young and strong, no problem, but if you have any issue walking and climbing or if you happen to get sick, this is not the place for you. The food was much better the 2nd time around and we enjoyed our meals. All open air seating, so no a/c or screens from the bugs at meals, so that could be better. Rustic is part of the charm, but I at least like to be comfortable at dinner. The dive boats are nice, though a few too many divers on a couple of the trips out. We really enjoyed our crew and the diving was really nice. We had a number of equipment failures and they were more than accommodating in getting us fixed up. Had a bc valve problem and they fixed it fast and cheap so gave him a really nice tip as well as our crew since they did an excellent job. All of the staff at the resort was helpful and friendly. Diving is typical carribean diving, which means it is really good. Turtles, rays, dolphin, and all of the fabulous, colorful fish, reef, drift, wreck and wall dives; so a great variety. The resort includes the Marine Institute and you can do dolphin dives for a fee, but you can get lucky and see them on a regular dive. You can taxi to Bailey's Key (part of the resort) and see the dolphins all you want for free or snorkel with them for an additional fee. The resort does have a chamber in case of emergency and is the only one close. All in all, it's a great place if you're looking for a very outdoorsy vacation with friends, unencumbered by modern life. Feels good doesn't it to log off for a week enjoying what life is really all about. Eat, sleep, dive, drink...then do it all over again.

This was a trip of a lifetime! The staff here are great and take care of everything. My BCD had a malfunction and their knowledgeable "tech" department helped to fix my equipment, so I never missed a dive- Denny- is the best!
The dive sites are all amazing and we saw turtles on every dive. The dolphin encounter is a once and a lifetime experience. The dive shop is well run (as a former SCUBA instructor, I approve) I saw several folks taking courses and chatted with the instructors- 5 star PADI shop! The resort is for all ages, but there were fewer folks under 30 years old. The food is predetermined, but excellent. Happy hour's even better!
