Pulau Weh is a tiny island located at the northernmost tip of Sumatra, Indonesia where the Indian Ocean meets the Andaman Sea. Most dive sites are located in the northwest of the island, where the currents bring along pelagics and schools of fish so big that it rivals destinations like Sipadan. Whitetips, Blacktips, Grey Reef and the occassional Silvertip sharks can be found at some of the depper sites. In Pulau Weh, you dive in a crowd of fish, not in a crowd of fins. Garden after garden of large gorgonian fans litter numerous dive sites.
Closer to the island, divers can go in search of macro critters in the sand where leaf scorpionfish, frogfish and a variety of nudibranchs and flatworms.
Wreck enthusiasts will want to explore the Sabang wreck, a tugboat which lies in 50ft enroute to one of the most unique dives you will ever do. An underwater volcano is the souce of the the bubbling waters at Hotsprings, and the sulphurous odor on the surface. While ths divesite isn't packed with fish, it will definitely be one of the more memorable dives you will do.
