Yongala Dive, Ayr, Queensland, Australia
There are only a few operators that do dives to the Yongala and Yongala Dive out of Ayr is the biggest. The staff are great; gregarious and helpful and they even took some extra time after the dive to do some whale watching as we spied a mother humpback and her baby when returning to shore. The boat is comfortable yet can be crowded so there is not much space to "chill out" during your surface interval. There were snacks and drinks during the day and a big late lunch when we returned back to the dive shop. The diving itself is incredible - a thorough briefing of the site and it's history given by the divemasters make you appreciate this memorial, but the marine life is so phenomenal that most of the dive I didn't even remember I was diving a wreck. There are groupers and potato cods so big they could almost be the size of a smart car!!!!! I did feel that the dive was a little pricey, but you really don't have a choice if you want to dive this amazing place.
