Location
Dive Overview
The North-West coast of Mauritius is the region of Mauritius with best sea conditions and amazing underwater life. Indeed, the South East monsoon wind blows non stop from May to end of October and the western and north western coast are on the leeward side and thus not exposed to bad weather and heavy seas. This situation allows the growth of soft corals and most fragile corals in calm and warm sea conditions of an unexposed coastline. The fish and coral life are abundant and this location is also within sailing distance to the remote northern islands with exhilarating dive sites.

Dive Information
Diving with Blue Water Diving
Before entering the water, divers are briefed on the parameters of the coming dive; they are warned to stay well away from corals mainly during drift dive into current.
The dive center advises against the use of gloves that would unconsciously incite divers to touch or grip on anything sometimes at their own risk (remember stonefish and scorpionfish), the use of snorkel or knife to take balance on the bottom is not permitted.
Communication instruments such as shakers and scuba powered whistles are Real safety equipment that must be used to attract attention in case of emergencies during the dive or on the surface, these instruments must not be used at all ends underwater as they could be a real nuisance to the marine life and other divers.
Refresher Dives are compulsory in all existing diving Organization! We request a refresher dive to any diver who has not been diving for the last 6 months or more. Refresher dives take place on easy dive sites and at different depth accordingly to the level of the diver. For Level 1 Divers/ OWD: 6 to 12 meters, as from Level 2/ AOWD: 12 to 20 meters dives are possible.
It is normal for any beginner or experienced divers to take a refresher dive to familiarize with the water environment and to adjust their weights so as not to jeopardize the lives of their mate divers on a normal dive where there could be current and depth.
Photographers are asked to be properly balanced and to stay in mid water so they do not damage the marine life. Extra weights shall be refused to the photographers.
Introductory Dives
Introductory dives are performed directly in the sea following strict international rules of CMAS and PADI. Candidates for this amazing adventure are first equipped at the diving center, then they will receive a briefing on the way to the selected dive site on the boat by their personal instructor. It is open to everyone in good health as from the age of 8 (maximal depth 2 meters) and as from 12 (maximal depth 6 meters). Minors need a written authorization from their parents or guardians.
Recreational Dives
Blue Water Diving Center dives differ from other dive centers by the knowledge of the captain and dive leaders/instructors about the sea, the dives sites and special relationships they have with some marine creatures. Blue Water Diving Center team has discovered many dives sites now shared with other diving centers. They always try to innovate getting out of beaten paths and look for new dives sites and underwater adventures or excursions.
Courses
Blue Water Diving Center offers high-quality courses from internationally recognized organizations such as CMAS and PADI. The practical training sessions are mainly provided in a shallow and calm lagoon or on shallow sandy patches in open sea. Whenever necessary, they have a pool for the courses. Theoretical courses are provided in a well equipped and air-conditioned classroom.
Shark Diving Safari
Blue Water Diving Center organizes in season, day trips near remote Northern islands: Gunner's Quoin, Flat Island, Pigeon's Rock, Round Island and Snake Island. Some of these dive are specifically concentrated on diving with sharks. They only organize these day safaris from the month of November till May. From end of May until end of October, it is winter in the southern hemisphere and Mauritius is under strong South-easterly monsoon winds that renders navigation and access to these dive sites difficult and impossible!
Whale Watching - Humpback Whales
Although Humpback whales arrive in the waters from April through to October, they only organize whale watching trips in August and especially in September, if weather permits. This is the time where the cow Humpback whales give birth to their calves and are calm and stable.
Whale Watching - Sperm Whales
A population of female Sperm whales is residents of the South and West coast of Mauritius. The best months to observe them are February through April although it is possible to see them all year round if the weather conditions are good. In November the sea is calm but the big males are here for mating and therefore the sperm whales are very mobile and cover large distance during the day. The big males stay in Mauritius usually until March; the calves are born the next year (16 months gestation time).
