Dive Information & Itineraries
Dive Overview
Most of the dive sites are located 5-15 minutes away from Sahaung and are located around the island of Bangka. After the dives, the boats come back to the Blue Bay Diver's beautiful island and the surface interval is completed at the resort.
The central location of Sahaung Island and Blue Bay Divers allows guests to dive not just in the Bangka archipelago but around North Sulawesi, including Bunaken and Lembeh. The location of Sahaung is not only a beautiful, white sandy beach island on Bangka but also very close to the famous spots of Bangka – Batu Sahaung or Tanjung Husi – just in front of their doorstep.
Blue Bay Divers also offers day trips to the Bunaken National Park and Lembeh Strait, known for its critters and macro. For these day trips, guests will start at 7:00 in the morning and make 3 dives. On the way back from Lembeh Road, guests can also stop in the Tangkoko National Park to observe the smallest monkeys in the world.
Dive Sites
Here are some of the dive sites offered by Blue Bay Divers. Feel free to ask us if you would like to know more about these and other dive sites.
- Sahaung - The dive sites around the resort's island Sahaung is for sure some of the most exciting dive sites. The underwater rocks of Batu Sahaung reach just below the water surface and form gigantic steps underwater.
- Right at the beginning of the dive, a collection of green and golden soft corals, giant elephant ear sponges and a thicket of table corals await you on the rocks. A carpet of leather corals spreads, other soft corals – pink, brown, purple, cream – weigh in the water.
- At the same time, amounts of blue triggerfish swimming, snappers, pennant fish swim around you. Often, pigmy seahorses, frogfish, or boxercrabs also appear. Or you discover a sleeping shark among the hard corals. Sometimes an eagle ray is visiting for a visit.
- Batu Mandi - Batu Mandi, located near the coast of Sulawesi, is a large steep cliff. If you dive down to this, you will see a lot of small animals, for example, jewelry ghost pipefish, colorful nudibranchs, or mantis shrimp among colossal horn coral. Before diving Batu Mandi, guests should ensure that the previous dives are not deep to fully experience the most beautiful attractions.
- Batu Gosoh - Location on north of Bangka Island, this dive site requires a bit more experience to fully enjoy. With a maximum depth of 40 meters, the dive is filled with various types of corals and caves. Divers can also expect to see batfish, spiny mackerels, and occasional rays.
- Bunaken National Park - There are over 30 diving spots here, surrounded by the islands of Bunaken, Siladen, Manado Tua, Montehage, and Nain. Visibilities of 20 to 30 meters or even more and a huge variety of corals and fish species make the Bunaken National Park a unique diving area. Here, there are seven times more coral species than Hawaii – and the fascinating dive experience is the famous drop-off walls from Bunaken. 70 percent of all fish species in the West Indies Pacific are found here: spiny mackerel (Seriola rivoliana), blue-banded snapper, anthias (Pseudanthias hypselosoma), soporelon snapper.
- Blue Bay Divers is a member of the North Sulawesi Watersports Association, which is committed to protecting the National park. The Bunaken National Park can be reached from Sahaung in one and a half hours by boat. The entrance fee is 15 euros per year.
- Lembeh Strait - The Lembeh Strait lies between the Lembeh island and the foothills of Sulawesi. It is about 16 kilometers long and two kilometers wide. Their banks are partly characterized by white limestone formations with upstream islands (Batu Sandar, Sarena Kecil, Kai-nah). The contrast is Batu Angus, a mighty lava field. The black sand near it also testifies the volcanic activity.
- Around 25 dive spots are waiting to be dived on Lembeh Strait. The visibility is 10 to 20 meters, the water is relatively cool at 24 to 27 degrees for tropical conditions. Since the strait is well protected, you can dive here all year round. Underwater you will experience a landscape that is characterized by black volcanic sands, slopes, and corals and offers many, sometimes bizarre and rare species.
- Some residents of the Lembeh Strait are small and cleverly camouflaged – macro photographers will enjoy it a lot. We offer day trips to the Lembeh Strait. It takes approximately one hour from the Blue Bay in Bangka until Lembeh.
