Manta Point on Nusa Penida is arguably one of Bali‘s most well-known dive sites. We headed out there this morning with Gangga Divers after another great breakfast at Lotus Bungalows.

Manta point is located on the backside of Nusa Penida, where ocean swell meets cliffs to create some dynamic water, including a cleaning station favored by giant manta rays. The boat ride from Padang Bai took about 45 minutes on Gangga’s comfortable boat.

Then we scored mantas. I counted 11 in my sight at one point knowing there were more mantas swimming about. The cleaning station is in relatively shallow water, however it can be cold and subject to significant surge from the ocean swell passing through the water into the cliff backdrop.

Diving with mantas is a truly special experience. They swim with incredible grace and you can’t help but feel their wisdom when making a close pass. Be sure to check out our Ultimate Guide to Manta Rays. The video below is what we saw.
