Dive Information
The palapa at the end of the 160 dock is the perfect space for relaxing, with its hammocks, benches and freshwater shower. Its also the jump-off point to the house reef. The house reef is only accessible for resort guests. The water surrounding the dock is the ideal spot for snorkeling as well as for a shallow dive (maximum depth 20), particularly if doing underwater photography, working on buoyancy exercises, or a night dive. The house reef is also one of the dive training areas, and a training area to obtain a lionfish permit through the Roatan Marine Park. Here are the house reef features:
- Small sunken boat, an artificial habitat for marine life
- Underwater hoops for buoyancy practice
- Commonly sighted marine life on our house reef include: schools of squid, eagle rays, pufferfish, snappers, wrasses, damselfish, flounder, angelfish and butterflyfish
- Calm and protected inner reef, including healthy lettuce coral, flower coral and brain coral
- Reef propagation project
- May 2015 addition of a VW van as another artificial habitat for marine life
Dive Center Information
To give guests the best possible experience exploring Roatns amazing dive sites, Barefoot Cay built their own high-end dive shop, Barefoot Divers, onsite at the resort. The dive center is a PADI Certified 5-Star Instructor Development Center located at Barefoot Cay Resort and offers guests good accessibility to Roatns premier dive and snorkel sites. Barefoot Divers offers a full range of diving and training experiences and will take guests for dive trips to many of the superb dive sites surrounding Roatn. Dive gear can be rented and all levels of scuba instruction are available from Discover Scuba to Instructor.
Try diving for the first time with a Discover Scuba Diving experience, or complete your full certification with the Open Water Diver course. You can also advance your education with a specialty certification or advanced course. See our 10 favorite Roatn dive sites.
A refresher should be completed for any certified diving guest who has been out of the water for over twelve months, prior to joining the fun diving boats, as dive skills become rusty without use.

Barefoot cay is a wonderful and beautiful little resort that has several little cabins that you stay in that are very nice and clean and well taken care of. The food is fantastic and they gave a lot of variety so you can try lots of different things while you're there. The diving is great and I did my advanced open water certification while I was there and the staff were very knowledgable and informative and they took the time to make sure we got it right. I would highly recommend Barefoot Cay to anyone looking to dive and stay in a tropical paradise!
