Dive Information
Bunaken Dive Overview
The Bunaken National Marine Park (BNMP), where the Indian and Pacific Oceans meet, is composed of the islands of Siladen, Bunaken, Manado Tua, Mantehage and Nain. It covers a total area of over 890 square kilometers, hosts 390 different species of corals, is a center of marine global biodiversity and ranks among the top diving destinations in the world. It offers unforgettable diving and snorkeling.
The Marine Park is known for its rich macro life and is mostly characterized by wall dives rich in hard and softcorals. Pelagics such as reef sharks (black tip, white tip), eagle rays, barracudas, tuna, Napoleon wrasses and turtles are also a common sight.
There are over 50 dives sites within easy reach of the Resort. All dive sites around the 5 islands of the Marine Park are wall dives whereas dive sites alongside the coast of North Sulawesi are mostly dark sandy slopes with corals. A wreck is also available for diving in the Manado bay.
Diving Conditions
Average tide excursion is between 1.5 m and 3m. Visibility is generally good year-round: low visibility approximately 20m, average 30m occasionally up to 40m. During the year the average water temperature is 28 Celsius.
As currents change in intensity according to the tides, to ensure safe and comfortable diving to all guests, all dives are drift dives.
We recommend the use of full-length 3 mm suites. The use of gloves or knives is not allowed in the Bunaken National Marine Park. For safety reasons we only allow diving from boats and with a dive guide.

Siladen Resort is a beautiful place that does everything right. We booked this resort for 3 nights and 4 days, and did eight dives here, including two on the way to Lembeh Resort, in Bangka. Our biggest regret was not spending more time here. Ana and Miguel, the management team, have a very professional and organized approach to the running of the resort, and we felt instantly welcomed. Our bungalow was spotless, spacious, and thoughtfully appointed. It was very luxurious, despite not being beachfront (we would have liked that, but the beachfront villas were unavailable, despite our booking months in advance). The food was mostly buffet style, with a wide variety of choices both Indonesian, and western/Italian. It was excellent, and meals were mostly beachfront.I took one group yoga class, and also did a private yoga class, both took place in a "treehouse" platform type building with a terrific view of the ocean, and the sunset. This felt terrific after the long flights to get here.Diving was beautiful and colorful, and the dive operation ran smoothly. Nice touches included hot beverages between dives and fruit offered by the dive staff. All the dive sites were very good.I also received one of the best massages I have ever had. This took place in their well appointed spa.I would love to return to Siladen one day, and my husband and I highly recommend this resort for couples wanting a romantic getaway with some relaxing diversions in addition to diving, but the diving is truly world class here as well!I should also mention that airport transfer, as well as our boat transfer were very efficient, and that was much appreciated.

Fabulous resort. Great food served buffet style. Had a different theme each night with the first being Italian night which was my favorite. Lunch was served on the beach outside. Had a garden view room that was very nice. Beautiful large bed with much needed mosquito netting. Service was great. English language skills were a bit lacking though not problematic.Diving at Bunnaken was good, though had strong currents which made some of the wall diving conditions very challenging. Had a smaller dive center operation then some of the Lembeh resorts which seemed a bit clashing with the very upscale resort. When tide was high you have to walk 15 minutes or so to the other side of town to get the boats. While not far can be a bit taxing in the tropical heat, especially if carrying heavy photo gear. They always brought all the dive gear. Dives were almost exclusively wall dives. Not much macro though my dive buddy had a good night dive on their reef and you can find macro stuff if they go back to Manado mainland which is a good option when current is strong. Most dive sites about 15 minutes from resort in small boats.

They meet you at the airport, after about a 30 minute drive you arrive at the boat dock for transfer to the resort. All your gear is transferred smoothly for about a 30-40 minute boat trip to the island. Then a short walk from the dock to the resort. The resort in in excellent shape, very clean with staff constantly doing some cleaning or maintenance. You are greeted with a welcome drink as you register and receive an intro to the resort. Main building has a shop, bar, restaurant surrounding the large pool. Rooms are separate bungalows some with ocean view, ours had a garden view. They are spaced far enough apart to give privacy and lock. The AC worked great, outdoor bathroom and the electric power did not fail during our stay. Food was good, local cuisine with adequate portions, enough choices to last the week without becoming redundant. The staff was always friendly, helpful and refused to let you carry anything of any significance. Dive boats had from 4-8 guests on them with usually 1 guide /4 people. Arrangements can be made for private or semiprivate guides. The diving was typical indonesia, good visibility, lots of critters and weird currents. The house reef is great, super coral and lots of fish and other marine life. I would go back in a heartbeat
