Galapagos Sky

The Galapgos Sky was well run, spacious and included well conceived dive plans. The food was very good, the diving was excellent. Underwater, between Wolfe, Darwin and the other dive sites, we saw hammerheads, Galapagos sharks, a whale shark, sea lions, maring iguanas, and more.I would recommend the Galapagos Sky for liveaboard diving. The dive guides emphasized safety which they obviously take very seriously. On a couple of dives, the profiles went from deep to relatively shallow to deep again, which is not a profile I would recommend, but with 10 days on a liveaboard, something will occasionally be imperfect.Overall, I would wholeheartedly recommend the dive operation.

The overall the experience was fantastic and the marine life was like no other I have previously experienced. Tons of Hammerhead sharks, Silky sharks, Galapagos sharks, Marine Iguanas, etc., etc. The area has more wildlife than can be expressed in this review and it is by far the healthiest ecosystem I have ever had the privilege of diving. The Darwin dive site by itself is worth the price of admission. Unfortunately, Whale sharks were out of season and we did not see the Mola mola or Giant Manta, but that didn’t take away anything from the experience. Diving in the Galapagos Islands is truly amazing and impossible to express in a review.I would caution that some of the dives can be quite cold and the current is very strong at times with relatively low visibility, so new divers or even semi-experienced divers should do their research before booking. There is an expected level of ability that the dive masters will expect you to have both on deck and in the water and it can be very frustrating for the entire group if one person’s inexperience holds up the group. That said, the dive masters do their best to make sure everyone gets the best of what the Galapagos has to offer.The Galapagos Sky and crew were great. The ship and state rooms were comfortable and clean and the staff was always courteous and professional. The ship was well maintained and the sun decks were great for lounging between dives or having drinks at night. They crew bent over backward to make sure we had everything we wanted and were comfortable at all times, including hot towels and fresh baked snacks immediately after every dive. Despite diving 3 – 4 times a day, I think I actually gained weight on the trip.The biggest downside is that the trip is expensive. Once you get past the sticker shock, the rest of the trip quickly falls into the “once-in-a-lifetime” category. I would definitely recommend this trip and the Galapagos Sky to anyone.

My friend and I traveled aboard the Galapagos Sky in Dec. 2016. It was truly an amazing trip. The diving was terrific and the service aboard the sky was equally impressive. The crew was knowledgeable, friendly, and safety conscious. The dive guides were excellent and provided us with the best possible experience on every dive. The marine life surpassed my admittedly high expectations.The pre-dive briefings were incredibly helpful and the crew was great about getting us in and out of the water quickly and safely. The food was also excellent.Bluewater did an excellent job helping us arrange the trip, and getting us prepared for what ended up being a trip of a lifetime.

My trip was 30-7 Dec. and we had very good conditions with the sea and the wind. Underwater the best conditions were on Wolf Island and Darwin Arch, with about 25 meters (80ft) of visibility and not to much current.Galapagos, hammerheads and Silky sharks were especially friendly with us, but we did not see any whale sharks because the temperature of the water was too warm.The dive guides Max Catillo and Nico were very professional and made our dives easy. Everything in the boat was fine, but the food was a 10/10. Roca Vicente dive site gave us the occasion to see iguanas and penguins underwater with also big balls of Salemas. Fernandina Island was the place full of Iguanas and we got the opportunity to get a great pictures of the iguanas, very difficult but with great satisfaction. Last dive site was Pizon, a very good surprise with lots of fish and big schools of salemas and barracudas. Just got home, but with the dream of returning to Galapagos with Sky Galapagos Liveaboard.

We had a great time on the Sky Liveaboard in the Galapagos. You should be an advanced or better diver on this trip, as there were very often currents great than 5 knots and low visibility. The wildlife was spectacular. My only complaint was an engine on our boat broke the second day and we weren't able to dive one of the locations that I was looking forward to and we did not receive any refund or really an apology for the broken engine. We still made it to Wolf and Darwin, but our trip was definitely diminished by the lack of one engine not working.The rooms on the boat were very nice. We had an ocean view room and it was comfortable. The boat itself was one of the nicest liveaboard I've been on, although a little older.The dives were run off dingys that you would load onto and off of every morning. The best diving is at Wolff and Darwin, so as soon as you can get out there, go! They have very strict park rules on how many dives you can do a day anywhere in the Galapagos (only 3). But its still worth the trip, because once you get out to Wolff and Darwin the hammerheads are amazing. You were divided into two groups and each dive was led by a divemaster because of the currents. At Wolff and Darwin, you'd spend 20-30 minutes holding onto something and staying in the same spot watching hammerheads pass you by, and big rays and galapagos sharks. The end of the dive was spent swimming straight into the blue. Never a boring moment as you can run into whale sharks, walls of hammerheads, silky sharks and all sorts of other free swimming blue water fish.I do not remember loving the food nor do I remember disliking the food, so it must have been decent! The crew was very sweet and did their best to make your trip memorable.
